Moreno was not only a doctor of medicine but after all the first poet on the « stage of devotion ». From the very beginnings in Vienna he emphasized the existence of „magic“ moments which were able to go beyond the mère reality in the here and now expanding its boundaries by the power of imagination and « truthful » encounters. He never conceptualized a propper sequence of destructive and re-creative processes But the spontaneity-creativity cycle itself and the associated practise echoe the principles of alchimistry in the sense of a process of mental transformation as described by CG Jung. This presentation will focus on the pecularities of such process of change based on Psychodrama and Alchimistry.

The author will describe and discuss a psychodrama theory and practice in the context of existential analysis of a human condition, in particular, the concept of personal freedom. Psychodrama principles and tools will be both considered, as based on a clients' ability for engagement, openness and co-creation as well as oriented to enhancement of their practical freedom of choice. The freedom-focused analysis of psychodrama actions will be referred to the current proposals of transtheoretical description of processes of change.

Throughout his professional life Moreno remained critical towards psychoanalysis both as a theory and clinical practice. However, a closer look and analysis of his writings and views indicate that he was well informed on the developments and innovations of psychoanalytic ideas. Our position is that he was deeply influenced by the achievements and recognition of S. Freud and the same time his unwillingness to give any credit to the newly invented psychodramatic method.
Nevertheless, the successors of S. Freud seemed to be significantly more cognizant of the psychodramatic ideas More recent developments depict a noteworthy convergence between psychoanalytic concepts and psychodrama method.
The aim of this presentation is to examine the delve into the shared elements and connections between psychodrama, group analysis and psychoanalysis, the three stepchildren of Vienna, as M. Pines has named them back in 1985.
