Alongside the somatic and social dimensions, the roles in the role-project theory of Analytical Psychodrama for individuation are characterized by the imaginal dimension linked to the exploration of that which is possible, of the meanings of symbols, and of the dialogue between the conscious and the unconscious.

Now, if the Analytical Psychodrama for individuation usually involves only real present or past moments of the protagonist’s life, the Virtual Scenes are an exception. They belong to three categories, i.e., future or alternative scenes; scenes of events “narrated” by others but useful to explore the transgenerational dynamics; and scenes from movies, books, myths, and even dreams of someone else, on which the protagonist has projected his/her inner parts. The way in which these scenes are “played” and their objectives can be defined as a function of the imaginal dimension, which is also crucial in investigating the meaning of dreams.
