Marco Deriu

(degree in Political Sciences at the University of Bologna, PhD in Sociology at the University of Parma) is Researcher in “Sociology of cultural and communicative processes” and Assistant Professor of “Sociology of political and environmental communication” at the Department Of Humanities, Social Sciences And Cultural Industries of the University of Parma. He is also President of Degree Program in Journalism, Editorial Culture and Multimedia Communication.

At the Faculty of Law of the same University he taught "Social Policies" and "Sociology of Globalization". At the Faculty of Economy of the University of Calabria he taught "Geography" and "Economy, Society and Geopolitics in a long-term perspective". He also taught "Sociology" at the Theological Institute S. Antonio in Bologna.

He is member of the Scientific Board of the four-monthly journal “La Società degli Individui” and collaborates with several other journals. Between 1996 and 1999 he has been the director of the journal “Alfazeta”.

He is a member of the Italian Degrowth Association, of the National Association Maschile Plurale and of the local associations Maschi che si immischiano and Circolo della differenza in Parma.

His scientific interests concern gender and generation studies, cultural and communicative dimensions of international processes, with a particular reference to globalization, post-development and degrowth, wars, solidarity and international cooperation. He is currently researching the relationship among ecological democracy, degrowth and ecofeminism.

Besides several essays in collective books, he authored the books: La fragilità dei padri.
